Systems Engineering Good requirements management is essential to the cost-effective execution of large projects. On smaller projects, it is often possible to get by with informal controls, but for larger groups where regular contact between all the project members is not possible, formal requirements management is necessary. This is especially true where work is being subcontracted to other parties, as revisions to specifications after a contract has been let can be quite disruptive. MSE consultants are highly skilled at devising system architectures and developing requirements for the subsystems and components which will ensure top level functional and ancillary requirements are met. Experience with industry standard tools such as DOORS and RequisitePro lets us familiarize ourselves with your project in short order and get right to work with minimal training. Design Our normal role is to provide external review of client designs, particularly where mechanisms are involved, as in robotics. We can also arrange to perform mechanical design work ourselves, which sometimes comes in handy when mock-ups or test equipment are needed and it is desired not to take the customer design team away from their tasks. MSE design consultants are proficient with a variety of CAD systems, and will generally train at our cost if it is necessary to work with a new system. Experimental & Applied Mechanics MSE consultants bring extensive analytical and experimental experience to bear on your problems. Static, dynamic, modal, nonlinear material and nonlinear geometric finite element analysis are all represented, and we have used industry standard software such as NASTRAN, I-DEAS, and Abaqus. We have also made extensive use of kinematic and rigid body dynamic analysis tools, employing such programs as Adams and DADS. MSE also brings a large body of marine analytical experience to the table, including predictions of motions and hydrodynamic forces on floating systems using a variety of tools such as WAMIT, AQWA, the Navy's Ship Motion Program, and self-developed software. Finite difference and finite element models of towed and tethered systems have also been developed for many different applications. For predicting forces on vehicles and other deeply submerged bodies, conventional CFD is available. Control Most of the systems we become involved with have some form of automatic control. MSE consultants help define requirements for processing systems up front, so that hardware engineers, software engineers, and analysts can proceed to independently work in their respective areas with confidence. We also assist in the design and analysis of all manner of control systems using tools such as Matlab Simulink. Specialty Disciplines We can also provide experts in fields such as reliability, failure modes and effects, safety analysis, corrosion and materials science, and operations planning and analysis. Any expert requested by the customer can also be brought to bear on a problem through the corporation, for situations in which a customer can not execute a personal consulting contract on their own.
